In the future, scholars who possess historical, political, sociological, or theoretical interests in aspects of the BPP will find Jeffries' work to be essential to their research. I know of no scholars who have investigated the history of black American progressive organizations as has Jeffries and his numerous colleagues. He is a leader in this distinctive and original scholarly achievement. It provides a portrait of the grassroots diversity of the BPP and a more concrete sense of the relationship of the local chapters to the national leadership.

He added that political empowerment - registering people to vote and supporting progressive candidates - remains among his priorities. Edwards, who is helping Seale produce a Black Panther Party film, recalled the Democratic primary in which a young Illinois state senator named Barack Obama challenged Rush to represent the south side of Chicago in the U.
